In Istanbul there are two airports, one on the Asian side and one on the other European side.
Istanbul Atatürk Airport: It is Turkey’s main airport, located 15 km west of the center of Istanbul. It was opened in 1924.
Sabiha Gökçen International Airport: It is the second largest airport in the country’s largest city, Istanbul. It was built and inaugurated in 2003 to try to relieve Atatürk International Airport. The bar of 10 million passengers was exceeded in November 2010. The airport is mainly used by European low-cost airlines. Turkish Airlines also carries out some domestic flights departing from this airport.
